Succulent Herbs

Rosemary, Oregano, and Thyme, basking in the sun. On Saturday we went looking for herbs, which were hard to come by, but found this bucket trio. It seemed to have been a little roughed up, so we've decided to hold off a week, before separating and potting them.
We strolled around the garden section at Home Depot, and found a few nice things. There was a bunch of strawberry plants! Stephen came up with the idea to have a windowsill box full them. Great idea, right! However, we came to find out that they weren't the crawling kind, so we are going to wait on the strawberries. We did find a couple more planters, in white and one in teal. It'll be all white with a pop of blue!
I'm a sucker for succulents...so, we came home with a little one-it's called 'Hens and Chicks'.
And, of course, I can't go a weekend without some knitting. I started a pair of hedgehog mitts in Wild Blackberry.

Happy Monday! :)

Thrifty Kitchen

The hubby and I are going to be setting up an herb garden in the kitchen! Instead of having the herbs all in one windowsill pot, we've decided it would be different to have the them in separate, unique pots. This weekend we went looking around for some potting ideas, and found a few neat things at a 'Value Village'(similar to a 'Salvation Army'). A place like that has so many kitchen ceramic/glassware, that can be used as little plant holders! It also can be much cheaper than planter pots, and more interesting. I was tickled with all the retro kitchen stuff from the 80's...haha, so tacky, but love it.
I have a picture in my mind of a couple shelves with mostly white ceramics with a pop of some color...I did find a pretty, blue crystal candy dish that would have been a lovely addition, however, it wouldn't have been ideal for any the herbs(being that it was clear). That's ok, maybe we'll find our pop of color next weekend when we go get the herbs.  :)
Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!

A Moment of Reflection

I want to take a moment to reflect on the awful tragedy that took place in Boston on April 15, 2013. My hometown is Salem, MA-a small town just outside of Boston, where most of my family resides. Although my family and friends are ok...it still hits close to home.
My heart is so saddened for those affected by this horrific incident. The pain, that  them and their families are going through right now. My thoughts and prayers are with them all.
May we all look towards the positives in the midst of this tragedy. Acknowledging the many heroes that showed true love for their fellow neighbors.
Love and Prayers.

Black Licorice

The sun is shining! Yay! Ottawa is sure taking it's time on switching over to spring. Lots of overcast, rainy days. I knew that winter lasted longer out here...but I guess I didn't truly understand it until now.
Yesterday the hubby and I went to see 'The Croods'. Creative, heart-felt, funny, clever...a must see family movie. The animation was incredible. Lots of laughs, it was uplifting, much needed.

I've got some black licorice on the needles, with a classic for the little ones. :)

'The Golden Girls' and Slippers

A pair of 'Leg Warmer Slippers' on the needles. Continuous garter stitch knitting with 100% merino wool is like...well...like knitting butter? That's the best I can come up with at the moment. It is so smooth and relaxing.
To top it all off, I've been on a 'Golden Girls' kick, watching episode after episode for the past week. Ahhhh. Love it. In case anyone's interested, you can watch 'The Golden Girls' on Youtube here.

Day Dreaming by the Campfire

I've been day dreaming and for real dreaming a lot about camping lately. One of my favorite things about summer. Camping,  I think,  is a great way to make lasting memories. It's where I met my husband for the first time, in person. Oh? I never told you that wonderful story? I'll save that one for another time.
Oh, how I love it, from setting up the tent, cooking and relaxing by the cozy fire-being mesmerized by the flickering flames, canoeing, hammock time...the list could go on. Camping is about the only time where I don't mind being dirty. I have to admit, as many times I've gone camping, I still get scared at night while trying to fall asleep in the tent, hearing the sounds of animals, rustling leaves, and breaking twigs. I guess some things never change. :P
Stephen and I have plans to go camping a couple times this summer...I can't wait!

Casting on Some Thyme

Casting on in this lovely green colorway-thyme. As much as I love neutrals, it's refreshing to be working with some color after working with brown for the past couple weeks.

Hooded Scarf

Here's the 'H o o d e d   S c a r f' in colorway-toast.

This piece will be available in sizes months up to 3 years of age.

The prototype displayed here is knitted in size 2-3 years.

My original thought, was to have tassels on the end of the scarf, but didn't like the way it looked, so ended up going with the pom poms. I think they add a nice finishing touch. My husband said that with the pom poms it sort of looks like a bear paw. I'm sure the color contributes to that as well.  ;)

Morning Sunshine

Good Morning everyone. :)
What a lovely Easter weekend we had. We took a stroll down by the river, with a couple of friends from Stephen's work, and took some pictures-I'll edit and upload some maybe sometime this week. We then went for some Vietnamese for dinner. It was delicious! I got my favorite, Pad Thai.
It was funny, as we were walking through Chinatown we kept passing restaurants named, "Pho Bo Ga La", then a couple doors down, "Pho Bo Ga King", a block down, "Pho Bo Ga 2", and then "New Pho Bo Ga"...haha, very original-it was quite amusing. If you ever go to a Pho Bo Ga in Chinatown, I'd make sure you know what block it's on first.

On the knitting end: I've finished the Hooded Scarf, and am ready to start working on the next winter item before moving onto the spring/summer collection! I will blog about it later on today.
